Coalition "Revved Up" Over Introduction Of Immigration Reform Legislation

 

Leaders in Los Angeles to ride yellow bus under the banner CIR ASAP or Bust” and visit local Representatives still on fence about legislation

 

What:   Los Angeles leaders and community members in support of immigration reform will hold press conference before getting on board a yellow bus entitled “CIR ASAP or Bust”.  The group will visit offices of local U.S. House Representatives still on fence about supporting the serious legislation to be presented in Congress this Tuesday. 

 

Who:    Community, immigration rights, civil rights, faith-based, labor, education, and business leaders and organizational representatives.

 

When:   Tuesday, December 15, 2009

        10:00 a.m. Press Conference

              10:30 a.m. Bus begins tours of local U.S. House Representative offices

       

Where:                  CHIRLA, 2845 West Third Street, Los Angeles, CA  90057

                        Parking lot accessible through back alley

 

Why:    On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, U.S. House Representative Luis Gutierrez will introduce the Comprehensive Immigration Reform For America’s Security and Prosperity Ac of 2009 (CIR ASAP) in Washington, DC.  The legislation has 53 co-sponsors and is supported by a broad and diverse coalition, including The Congressional Hispanic Caucus, The Congressional Black Caucus, The Congressional Asian Pacific Americans Caucus, and The Congressional Progressive Caucus.

 

        Los Angeles leaders and community members involved in the fight for immigrant rights will offer their perspective on the proposed legislation and ride along a yellow bus to pressure several local legislators still on the fence about supporting this serious and timely legislation.  Communities nationwide will also hold similar activities.

 

Visuals:        Community and Immigration Rights Leaders in front of a yellow bus.  Large banners around the bus will read “Immigration Reform FOR America” and “CIR ASAP or BUST”.  Participants will carry smaller colorful posters reading “Family Unity”, “We Must Act Now” and other slogans.  American flags. Participants will advance as a group toward local Representative offices seeking audience.

Líderes en Los Angeles abordan autobus llamado “A La Victoria con CIR ASAP” y visitan a legisladores indecisos

 

Qué:    Líderes comunitarios y defensores de los derechos de los inmigrantes ofrecen conferencia de prensa minutos antes de abordar un autobús amarillo que han nombrado “A La Victoria con CIR ASAP”, refiriéndose al anteproyecto migratorio que hoy se anuncia en Washington, DC.  Los participantes visitarán las oficinas de Representantes de la Cámara Baja en el Congreso que aún no ofrecen su apoyo a la propuesta.

 

Quién:  Líderes y miembros comunitarios, organizaciones defensoras de derechos del inmigrante, derechos civiles, comunidades de fe, educación, sindicatos, y pequeñas empresas.

Por Qué:        El 15 de diciembre, el Representante Luis Gutierrez presentará el anteproyecto migratorio titulado Ley Reforma Integral Migratoria Pro Seguridad y Prosperidad de Estados Unidos 2009 (CIR ASAP por sus siglas en inglés).  Esta legislación ya cuenta con 53 patrocinadores y ha recibido el apoyo de los Caucus legislativos conocidos como Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, y Congressional Progressive Caucus.

 

        En Los Angeles, líderes y miembros de la comunidad que han luchado por la aprobación de una reforma migratoria justa y humana ofrecerán su perspectiva y viajarán en autobús para visitar a legisladores federales que aun no se postulan a favor del anteproyecto.  También en otras partes del país se llevarán a cabo actividades similares.

 

Imágenes:       Autobús amarillo con pancartas gigantes que leen “Reforma Migratoria PRO América” y “A la Victoria con CIS ASAP”.  Los participantes también portarán volantes de colores y banderas estadounidenses y abordarán las oficinas de los legisladores en grupo.
