Immigrants Take Time To Appreciate, Rejoice And Remember On Thanksgiving Day

Congressman Howard Berman and Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes to address annual immigrant worker march, rally, mass and luncheon.  Community calls on Congress to move immigration reform bill in 2010.

What:   Annual immigrant workers hold march, rally, mass, and luncheon to honor Thanksgiving Day, appreciate all the opportunities this nation has offered them, rejoice in the love of their families and friends, and remember immigrants who have died attempting to cross the border.

Who:    CHIRLA(Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles), NDLON (National Day Labor Organizing Network), YPI (Youth Policy Institute), SEIU Local 1877, and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Peter’s Catholic Church Our Lady of Peace community volunteer group.

When:  Tomorrow, November 25, 2009

        9:00 a.m. march

        10:30 a.m. press conference

        11:00 a.m. service

        12:00 noon lunch

        1:00 p.m. food basket distribution

Where:                  March:  11841 Sherman Way, North Hollywood, CA Day Labor Center

Lunch/Baskets:  Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, 7800 Vineland, North Hollywood

Why:    Congressman Howard Berman, a strong immigrant community ally, and California State Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes will join hundreds of immigrant workers in the annual celebration and appreciation march and rally in honor of Thanksgiving Day.  A mass remembers immigrants who have perished attempting to cross the border.  Families who will not be together during Thanksgiving day because of deportations will head the procession.

Visuals:        Immigrant workers marching, chanting, praying.  Families will carry wooden white crosses inscribed with the names of their loved ones lost at the border.  Children will carry pictures of broken families due to raids.  Posters, banners, American flags.
