International Immigrants Parade June 27

The world in one day on Avenue of the Americas

WHAT: On Saturday, June 27, a cross section of the world will converge at noon on Avenue of the Americas, when thousands of participants from over 100 multicultural groups from New York City and the tri-state area will take part in the International Immigrants Parade.

Hosted by the International Immigrants Foundation, this one-of-a-kind parade, now in its 24th consecutive year, enables participating communities to celebrate and share their cultures, express unity through diversity and contribute to making America the unique cultural mosaic that we all enjoy.

The parade offers immigrant groups a sense of belonging, at the same time as we all get to celebrate their separate and very special identities. It's an opportunity to strike a blow against ignorance and misunderstanding, which, especially in difficult economic times, threatens to sever communities from each other and divide us all.

This glorious parade performance of traditional costumes and colorful dances, rhythms and music will create a spectacle that enables more than one million spectators to travel the world in one all-too-brief, unforgettable day.

WHO: The International Immigrants Foundation and the Multicultural Communities of the
tri-state area, elected officials and personalities.

WHEN: Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 12 noon on Avenue of the Americas, from 37th to 57 Streets.
