NEW YORK – The Latino Commission on AIDS has just announced plans for the 1st Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Transsexual (LGBTT) Health Summit of Puerto Rico: Collaborative Approaches to Public Health Awareness in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 2, 2011. Over the last several months, we have stood in solidarity with the Puerto Rican LGBTT community after numerous reports of homophobic and transphobic violence occured in the community. With the rise of these acts of violence in the US and Puerto Rico, we must continue to challenge homophobia, stigma and discrimination in order to build safe and healthy communities.
As part of the continued response to promote health equity, respect of LGBTT human rights, and enhanced community responsiveness to the needs of the LGBTT community, the LGBTT Wellness Summit has been developed and we are excited about the tremendous response in support of the first ever LGBTT Wellness Summit in San Juan. As a community-driven event in collaboration with numerous organizations in Puerto Rico like the Department of Health of Puerto Rico, there will be various workshops, panels, and speakers that will address the realities and needs of the LGBTT community in Puerto Rico. We invite members and media from across the country and Puerto Rico to attend this historic and important gathering.
The summit will take place at COSVI-Cooperativa de Seguros de Vida de P.R Ave Americo Miranda #400 Esquina Expreso Las Americas, Villa Nevarez, San Juan, PR.
