PRESS CONFERENCE to announce National March on WALL STREET

What: Bail Out the People Movement Press Conference
When: Tuesday, March 3, 1:00 pm
Where: In front of the NY Stock Exchange, Broad St. & Exchange Place

A Statement of Purpose issued by the Bail Out the People Movement says (in part):
The growing numbers of unemployed, underemployed, and others who are suffering because of the economic crisis must have a platform to show that they are not invisible. One April 3, Wall Street, the stage usually dominated by bankers will be transformed into a stage for people in need.

Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. spent the last year of his life attempting the launch what he considered the second phase of the civil rights movement: the fight for the right of all to a job or an income. Right now, in the midst of this terrible global economic depression created by greed on Wall Street, is the time to revive that fight.

The stimulus package passed by Congress is not enough. It may bring a measure of relief to some, but everyone knows that it is far too little to stem the frightening storm of layoffs that may soon be approaching one million a month. We must have as a part of a recovery program a truly massive jobs program that is big enough to meet the need.

We cannot on one hand say that some banks are too big to fail, while failing tens of millions of working people whose lives are being thrown devastated by unemployment and home foreclosures.

The National March on Wall Street, on April 3 & 4, has already gathered wide support, with more than 50 organizing centers across the U.S. (see http://www.bailoutpeople.org/apr32009orgcents.shtml for an updated list of organizing centers).
