Spelman Honors Women War Vets

LANHAM - Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Deborah Scott Thomas, who is CEO and President of Data Solutions & Technology Incorporated, will be recognized during the Spelman College Leadership and Women of Color Conference on May 11 in Atlanta, Georgia.  Scott Thomas is one of this year’s “Legacy of Leadership Awards” recipients.  She received her U.S. Air Force commission as a second lieutenant from Alabama State University’s Detachment 019 in 1975. She retired as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve, having served her country for three decades.

“The Legacy of Leadership Awards” celebrates the accomplishments of individuals and organizations making significant contributions to shaping the destinies of past, current and future generations of leaders.  The awards dinner, held on the first night of the Conference, is an elegant evening of memorable entertainment, outstanding speakers and inspiring stories of leadership.  Previous honorees include: Her Excellency Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President, The Republic of Liberia; Dr. Wangari Maathai, Founder, The Green Belt Movement, 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate; John E. Pepper, Jr., Chairman, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Chairman of the Board, Walt Disney Company;  and Sara Manzano-Diaz, Director, Women’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor.

This year’s keynote speaker for the awards event will be Soledad O’Brien, CNN anchor and special correspondent,   who will share personal insight on how she sustains while covering world affairs.

 

The two-day conference will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and the Spelman College campus.
