Chicago – One hundred percent of the recent first graduating class at a Chicago school are reportedly now college bound. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), many of the graduates at the Urban Prep Academy for Young Men, founded by Tim King, credit the school with helping them turn their lives around, after facing issues with poverty, neighborhood violence, and other struggles in trying to receive their education.
One student, Krishaun Branch, is quoted by the AP stating of his life before going to the school, “I knew I was going down the wrong path… I had to graduate or my life was going to be nothing. … I’d seen the streets were not going to get me anywhere.” King is further quoted as stating of the achievements of the graduating students, “It’s just a milestone… It’s not an endgame. This is not the fulfillment of our mission. (That) comes when we are able to see our students succeed in college and that may not be apparent for four or five years.”
