2009 URBAN SUBURBAN FILM FESTIVAL ATTRACTS ARTISTS AND BUSINESSES TO PHILADELPHIA AREA

Philadelphia, PA (BlackNews.com) - On Thursday, June 18th, Urban Suburban Film Festival LLC will begin hosting its 3 day film festival featuring emerging and aspiring filmmaker from all across the nation. The Urban Suburban Film Festival (USFF) was created to bring together artists who have a passion for filmmaking, and seek to find an opportunity to showcase, and distribute their film. The USFF will also provide an opportunity for the businesses associated with the organization, to collaborate with talented individuals, and increase our collective involvement in our respective communities.

The USFF will host a festival showcase that will involve film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions. This three day event will highlight screenings from narratives, documentaries, animation, and short films. Each artist will be recognized for their work, and given an opportunity to provide a brief synopsis of why their film was made. The workshops are intended to bring together the emerging artist and industry professional, with instructions, direction, and quick tips to enhance their craft. This event will also provide an atmosphere for individuals to network, and collaborate with each other on future projects. Aspiring entrepreneurs, industry professionals, community businesses & organizations, local dignitaries, and emerging film makers will be in attendance.

The USFF welcomes the opportunity for every artist to participate in this event, to promote the artistic and economic resources within our respective communities. For the past several years co-organizer, Creative Director Andrew Harmon has participated and attended numerous festivals in order get a perfect feel for what should be the main focus of this festival. Andrew has established himself as one of Philadelphia's emerging filmmakers. Raised in Philadelphia, Andrew dreamed and envisioned of becoming a filmmaker, when he was in the 9th grade, taking an American Cinema class. He attended Temple University's School of Communications and Theater, in the department of Film & Media Arts, where he received a Bachelor Of Arts (BA). He furthered his education by obtaining a Master's OF Science (MS), where he provides support and counseling to at risk children. When he is not participating in a film project, he enjoys working with the youth with mentoring programs and volunteer initiative.

Throughout the course the film festival USFF will host numerous cocktail parties in conjunction with Citibank and other prominent local businesses such as Sande Webster Gallery. The primary person responsible for balancing all these components will be George C. Blackmon, Vice President of Strategic Marketing. George C. Blackmon is the President of Employee Benefits Consulting Services, a local employee benefit consulting firm (www.ebconsultingservices.com). It is with great confidence that the "Urban Suburban Film Festival" will rely on George's dedication to excellence that was consistently exhibited while at Independence Blue Cross and the labor community over the years. In his new role, Mr. Blackmon will be responsible for creating business opportunities and developing a more expansive role in the region for this festival. It is our goal to foster a more positive image for the neighborhood along the City Avenue corridor that will be hosting the majority of the events. Mr. Blackmon will be responsible for creating community partnerships and alliances for "Urban Suburban Film Festival."
