ACLU To Testify Today Before Senate On Intelligence Sharing

WASHINGTON – The ACLU’s top lobbyist, Caroline Fredrickson, will testify before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security today at 2:30pm in a hearing to examine intelligence gathering and sharing techniques. The subcommittee will hear from both law enforcement officials and advocates on the subject.
Fredrickson will argue that any effort to expand information sharing among law enforcement agencies must be accompanied by independent oversight mechanisms. Rigorous standards must be put in place to ensure the use of proper methods, to preserve the privacy of innocent individuals, and to maintain the accuracy and usefulness of the shared information.
