Banking Is Back Initiative Aims For Diversity On Wall Street

Toigo Foundation Launches Banking Is Back Initiative

Top Wall Street Firms Lead the Push for Diverse MBA Talent at March 12th Summit;

MBAs Tell Their Story—In 60 Seconds Or Less

OAKLAND, CA.  —The Robert Toigo Foundation today announced the launch of Banking Is Back, an innovative initiative aimed at driving interest in career opportunities in the investment banking sector and invites minority pre-MBA candidates to register and attend its Banking Is Back Summit in New York on Friday, March 12, 2010. Toigo will be hosting the Summit with participation from sponsor firms including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Citi, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and UBS, as part of outreach efforts to educate incoming MBA candidates about career opportunities. Attendance is free and open to all diverse MBAs.

         For incoming MBAs, the Banking Is Back Summit provides an opportunity to meet and network with leading Wall Street finance professionals and recruitment professionals. The program will include career “intensives” that provide attendees with an upfront look at career dynamics and demands within Equities Research, Investment Banking, Private Wealth Management and Sales and Trading. All pre-MBA attendees are asked to submit a 60-second (and no longer) “resume reel” highlighting their strengths as a job candidate. Toigo will package the video resumes with traditional hardcopy versions and provide the data to the sponsor banks.

         "Together with five global banks, Toigo is determined to show MBA students that banking is very much alive, top firms are hiring and growing their teams,” said Nancy Sims, President, Robert Toigo Foundation. “As part of Banking Is Back, we’re helping major investment banking firms connect with talent, and by doing so, dispelling the myths and fears that may exist among MBA students that banking is not a viable career to pursue.”

         As part of the initiative, Toigo launched a Banking Is Back microsite featuring information and advice on different banking career paths, sponsoring firms, and how-to primers on applying to business school, managing the internship process and more. The site will also feature podcasts of professionals in key market sectors providing first-hand insights into the current environment, career decisions and firm culture.

          Toigo’s mission is to change the face of finance—and as part of that mission, the Foundation identifies top minority talent committed to careers in finance. Its Banking Is Back initiative is focused on educating incoming MBA students about the wide mix of career opportunities that exist within investment banking—and helping students navigate what path might be best for them.

         With 20 years experience nurturing minority finance professionals and providing leadership training and support, Toigo’s record of identifying and promoting minority talent within the financial sector is unmatched. Today, the Foundation has 800+ Alumni and Fellows working at all levels of leadership and in all sectors of finance, from investment banking and asset management to public service finance and alternatives, including hedge funds, private equity, venture capital and real estate.
