CINCINNATI HOSTS NATION’S OLDEST AFRICAN AMERICAN SORORITY
Regional AKA Conference Generates Over $450,000 in Estimated Direct Spending
 
WHO:   Cincinnati, Oh - Ohio Senator Eric Kearney, Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, City Manager Milton Dohoney, the NAACP, the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, and members from the Greek Pan-Hellenic Association will welcome over 1,350 women to the Queen City on Friday, April 24th at 7 p.m. at the Duke Energy Center.  Ladies from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Great Lakes Region and the nation’s oldest African American Sorority will convene in Cincinnati to host the 78th Great Lakes Regional Conference, April 23-26, stimulating the area’s local economy. The conference is anticipated to generate over $450,000 in direct spending for the local economy.  The Sorority’s Great Lakes Region encompasses the states of New York, Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

WHAT:  Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Great Lakes Regional Conference. Since 1908, the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. has responded to the world’s increasing complexity by continuing to empower communities through exemplary service initiatives and progressive programs. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc is comprised of over 200,000 college-educated women from around the world. It has an active membership of over 50,000 members who represent a diverse constituency of women from educators to heads of state, politicians, lawyers, medical professionals, media personalities and decision-makers of major corporations and government entities. Graduate members constitute the largest percentage of membership.

PUBLIC MEETING:  Friday, April 24, 7:00 p.m., Duke Energy Convention Center Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., responds to the needs of the Black community with comprehensive non-traditional programs. During the Public Meeting, the Sorority will honor members of the Greater Cincinnati area who exemplify the national five-pronged Program Platforms: #1 Non-Traditional Entrepreneur, #2 Economic Keys to Success, #3 Economic Growth of the Black Family, #4 Economic Educational, Advancement through technology and #5 Health Resource Management and Economics. In addition to conference registrants, the public meeting draws a cross-section of both community and business leaders for this open to the public forum.
