Coalition for Student Achievement Calls for Bold Action on Stimulus Education Reforms

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As states and districts begin to receive billions in federal stimulus funding for education, representatives from a newly formed coalition will announce a uniform effort to ensure local, state, and federal leaders make sure the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act achieves long-term, dramatic gains in student achievement. The Coalition will emphasize its commitment to working with the Obama administration to strengthen America’s schools, especially to improve teacher effectiveness, boost standards, and better prepare young people for college and work.

The Coalition for Student Achievement includes diverse organizations from the education, business, civil rights, and philanthropic communities. Coalition members will pledge to closely monitor the implementation of the stimulus legislation, working to make sure that this unprecedented infusion of federal funding is invested wisely by states and districts and overseen effectively by the administration. Additionally, they will release a letter to Secretary Arne Duncan.

Coalition for Student Achievement and its efforts to:

·         Ensure local, state, and federal leaders make sure ARRA achieves long-term dramatic gains in student achievement.
