Colin Powell's Comments Called "Disgraceful"

LOS ANGELES -- Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND Action, is calling General Colin Powell's endorsement of the mosque at Ground Zero 'disgraceful.' Powell, a retired four-star General and former Secretary of State appeared on ABC's "The View" last week and also claimed that 'Isalmophobia' was now spreading across America.

"Colin Powell's support of the Ground Zero Mosque and his claim that Islamophobia is spreading across the country are disgraceful," said Rev. Peterson. "I used to believe that Colin Powell was a respectable man who identified with some Republican values -- I now realize that he's a deceiver and a dyed-in-the-wool liberal."

General Powell used to be considered a moderate Republican, but his latest efforts to sell the mosque at Ground Zero as a 'community center' with a swimming pool that can be enjoyed by all is controversial to say the least. Powell also told Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, et al, that 'we must go forward' and it shouldn't make a difference how close the mosque is to Ground Zero.

Rev. Peterson called on Powell to back up his claim that Islamophobia is spreading across America. "There are more than 100 Mosques in New York City alone, so where's the proof that Americans are Islamophobic?" asked Rev. Peterson. "In 2008, Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama for president; he has attacked Rush Limbaugh; and called the McCain-Palin presidential ticket 'mean spirited.' Colin Powell needs to turn in his Republican card, tuck his tail between his legs, and run to register as a Democrat."
