Dems Celebrate Anniv. Of Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON  – Organizing for America, a grassroots project of the Democratic National Committee, will hold events to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act becoming law. At the events, local volunteers will share how the Affordable Care Act has positively affected the lives of millions of Americans.

Since being signed into law, the Affordable Care Act has protected Americans, both young and old, from the discriminatory practices of health insurance companies. Young adults up to 26 are now able to stay on their parents’ insurance, children with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage, and senior citizens are receiving help to pay for prescription drugs and enjoying free preventive care and cancer screening.

OFA supporters played an instrumental role in helping pass the Affordable Care Act.  In the last ten days before Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, OFA volunteers made nearly 500,000 calls and sent 324,000 letters to Congress, and held nearly 1,200 health care-related events with more than 10,000 attendees.
