Ella Joyce's "A Rose Among Thorns", a Tribute to Rosa Parks

Ella Joyce's A Rose Among Thorns, a Tribute to Rosa Parks Returns from 2009 National Black Theatre Festival with Glowing Review and Standing Ovations

"Intimate: Like a Chat with Rosa Parks" says the Winston-Salem Journal about TV & Film Actress Ella Joyce's one-woman play on Rosa Parks. The show has performed in 25 American cities since it's world-premiere at The Black Academy of Arts & Letters in Dallas 2007. Ms. Joyce has delivered over 70 performances for Black Churches, schools, special events, corporations, theatres, and is already actively taking reservations for Black History Month February 2010.

Los Angeles, CA, September 25, 2009 --(PR.COM)-- Ella Joyce (best known for "Roc", "Bubba Ho-Tep", and New Line Cinema's "Set If Off") enjoys presenting her solo performances throughout the year between film engagements and other projects. The play intimately captures the famous moment in the life of Rosa Parks, affectionately called "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement." There was even a performance on Mother's Day at the beautiful Wortham Center presented by the prestigious Houston Ensemble Theatre culminating in a glowing review from the Houston Arts hailing Ms. Joyce's portrayal as "refreshingly intimate," and to say "...the writing deeply echoed the love for Rosa Parks and her contribution to American history." Most reviews and audience comments use the words "mesmerizing", "spellbinding," and "brilliant" to describe her performances. The late Jack Zink of South Florida Sun-Sentinel called it a "well-crafted play... classy ...warm, engaging..." Eileen Morris, Artistic Director of the Houston Ensemble said "From the time Ms. Joyce stepped on stage, audiences were enamored with her resemblance, her delivery, and her passion filled with truth and the delicious portrayal of Rosa Parks. She embraced the essence of a woman that humanized the world." This sought after and beloved theatre piece has a Calendar of past & present performances, press reviews, "testimonials" from audience members, awards, and general booking information available at www.aRoseAmongThorns.com.

A Rose Among Thorns, written and performed by Ella Joyce, directed by Dan Martin (Lt. Baker on The Bold & the Beautiful) takes audiences on a mesmerizing journey not only exploring the "famous incident" that people think they seem to know, but also explores the deeds of other unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement through the eyes of Rosa Parks. This loving collection of historical information is quickly becoming an audience favorite, and it is Ms. Joyce's desire to eventually take the show around the world spreading accurate information about Mrs. Parks' message of social injustice defeated by love, peace, and goodwill.
