Entrepreneur of the Month - Amber Starr De Luna

Tell us about yourself?

I am a new year's baby, I was born in League City, Texas right outside of Houston. When I was 2 my mom and dad separated, dad and I moved to Southeast Houston, Texas, a very rough part of town. I didn't see my mom again until I was 13 years old. I learnt a lot growing up there, things you can't learn in a collage or by ear. "Street smarts" can be a useful tool believe it or not, in all aspect of life, whether it is professional, foreign, young or old and all in between. I m glad I have developed an in depth understanding of various diverse backgrounds, personality types and coulters. That "life tool" enables me to serve a wider variety of potential clients interested in my services. For example I offer Spanish language websites and I understand that culture. Best of all I learn to see the beauty in struggle, strengthened my will to succeed and compete, importance of family, communication and going above and beyond to conquer a task. By age 9, I graduate from modeling school and an art school. By age 13 I had won many writing and art awards as well. By 19 I was studying psychology as an interest and was friends with many Houston area men and women psychologist, Drs and professors. Because of my natural instinctive understanding of society and people, we always had a lot to talk about. I married at 21, started a family and by 1999 had developed a strong interest in web design.

Biography

Warrior of the Month - Benito Juarez

Benito Juarez is considered one of Mexico's greatest and most beloved leaders. During his political career he helped to institute a series of liberal reforms that were embodied into the new constitution of 1857. During the French occupation of Mexico, Juarez refused to accept the rule of the Monarchy or any other foreign nation, and helped to establish Mexico as a constitutional democracy. He also promoted equal rights for the Indian population, better access to health care and education, lessening the political and financial power of the Roman Catholic church, and championed the raising of the living standards for the rural poor.

Benito Juarez was born March 21st 1806, the child of Zapoteco Indians. After they died when he was three, he went to live with his uncle, but when he was 12 he joined his sister in Oaxaca. He began studying for the priesthood, but in 1829 changed to studying for a law degree, which he received in 1831. That year he also began his political career, with a seat on the municipal council. In 1841 he became a judge, and the governor of Oaxaca.

CD Review - Indigenous - Broken Lands

Review by: Jamison Mahto

Is knowing you're an egotistical arrogant self centered bike ridin' blues lovin' obsessive compulsive mad man self-deprecation or self-awareness? I am condemned to a sun lit search for legendary, stopping off at the Spyhouse for a cup of dark roast, the latest Indigenous CD Broken Lands loaded, the bike tuned- up, my heart aching for the freedom of wind and weather.

"From the group's beginning in his parents' basement through the release of 2006's Vanguard debut Chasing the Sun, Indigenous was a family band. But after that disc . . . Nanji recruited guitarist Kris Lager, keyboardist Jeremiah Weir, bassist Aaron Wright, and drummer John Fairchild to tour behind Chasing the Sun. They also appear on Broken Lands, joined by drummer Kirk Stallings, percussionist Chico Perez, and Mato's wife Leah Nanji on backing vocals. Producer Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, R.E.M., Willie Nelson, the Eagles) completed the studio team."
