Jazz Great To Be Honored By Black Arts Academy

WASHINGTON – Hosts Jazz musician Art Sherrod, Jr. and his wife Georgia Noone-Sherrod will be joined by renowned actress Ruby Dee and actor Malik Yoba during a special holiday event featuring festive music, food, and cocktails to benefit the Black Academy of Arts and Letters in Capital Heights, Maryland December 11. This event is sponsored in part by the following: W Hotel Washington DC, Gallery Serengeti, and Kwedz Research.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, a 501C-3 non-profit organization, was founded by Curtis King to create and enhance an awareness and understanding of artistic, cultural, and aesthetic differences utilizing the framework of African-American arts and letters; and promote foster, cultivate, perpetuate, and preserve the arts and letters of African, Caribbean, and African-Americans in the fine, literary, and performing arts.

Urban jazz saxophonist Art Sherrod Jr. has shared the stage or co-headlined with world-class artists such as Natalie Cole, Angie Stone, Raheem DeVaughn, Roy Ayers, Slim Man, Cuba Gooding Sr. and the Main Ingredient. Sherrod has shown himself to be not just a great musician, but also a true entertainer and a definite crowd pleaser. Sherrod proves on his latest CD, ”Seasons,” that he has established himself as an impressive artist with a magical style like no other. Laced with urban jazz, R&B, and the traditional smooth jazz sounds the CD manages to bring together a “who’s who” list of great musicians.
