Lamman Rucker Returns To The Stage In "Black Angels Over Tuskegee"

New York, NY- Screen Actor, Lamman Rucker is set to star in the historic drama, “Black Angels Over Tuskegee” premiering at New York’s St. Luke’s Theater.  After nearly two years of repeated filming on television and in feature films, he returns to the stage in a stirring performance depicting the life of an ex-boxer turned Tuskegee Airman. The production, written and directed by Layon Gray begins an open-ended run January 29th following a successful Los Angeles preview.

While preparing for the release of the highly anticipated film sequel, “Why Did I Get Married, Too?”, the launch of his new natural beauty skin care line forplai, and a 2010 NAACP Image Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for "Meet The Browns", Rucker is joined by a stellar company of performers, two of which (along with Rucker) co-founded The Black Gents of Hollywood, an all-male ensemble driven to resurrect, redefine, and restore positive images of African-American men. “It is our duty to highlight a legacy that I believe contributes to restoring the identity of the Black male”, says Rucker.  “I’m especially honored that The Black Gents will debut Off-Broadway and pay tribute to The Tuskegee Airmen and other ancestors of that time who have embodied excellence, self-determination and self-discipline.”

The narrative depicts the lives of six men who struggle through the Jim Crow era and emerge with distinction as the first African-American pilots in the U.S. Army Air Forces.  With courageous brotherhood, their intelligence, patriotism and strength propel a dream into flight while fighting both military and social wars. The captivating all-male cast delivers a powerful performance that will entertain, inspire and inform as audiences discover the story that provoked a monumental change in American history.

"Black Angels Over Tuskegee" has been an official selection of the 2007 and 2009 National Black Theater Festival and recently won the 2009 NAACP Award for Best Ensemble, as well as the 2009 Artistic Director Achievement Award for Best Play
