Latin Dance Competition Winner Crowned

MIAMI – During its nail-biting grand finale episode, Univision’s reality dance competition “¡Mira Quién Baila!” (Look Who’s Dancing!) announced Vadhir Derbez as the winner of the show’s dramatic and exciting first season. Driving a record-breaking 14 million votes throughout the season, the show’s tight final race drew nearly five million votes from viewers who called or texted in support of one of the three finalists, which also included Univision personality Jackie Guerrido and regional Mexican music star Rogelio Martínez. As the winner, Derbez received $50,000 from sponsor AT&T to be donated to ASPIRA, while first runner-up Jackie Guerrido was awarded a $10,000 prize for her charity of choice, Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos. Martínez received $5,000 which he donated to The American Red Cross, the charity he represented throughout the competition. The grand gala finale of “¡Mira Quién Baila!” featured a spectacular performance by Mexican superstar Lucero, singing her new singles “Indispensable” and “Dueña de Tu Amor,” theme song of Univision’s hit primetime novela “Soy Tu Dueña.”

“We want to congratulate Vadhir Derbez for his outstanding performance and commitment to ‘¡Mira Quién Baila!,’” said Luis Fernández, president of Entertainment for Univision Network and of Univision Studios. “This has been an exceptional debut season for the show and we sincerely thank our viewers as well as our advertising partners for their unconditional support.  We are extremely proud of the product we were able to offer and happy to be able to support so many worthy causes through entertainment.”

“I am elated to have accomplished this goal,” said Derbez. “This show was a challenge for me and it makes me very happy to know that the audience, as well as the judges, liked my performance and made it possible for me to get to where I am.  I want to thank all the people that were with us throughout the show, the staff, the dancers, the fans and, of course, the viewers.”

Hosted by the charismatic Javier Poza and beautiful Venezuelan actress Chiquinquirá Delgado, the ten celebrities who participated in the show also included boxing champion Héctor “El Macho” Camacho, legendary singer/actress Rosa Gloria Chagoyán (“Lola, La Trailera”), stunning actress Scarlet Ortiz, multiplatinum recording artist Jon Secada, regional Mexican music star Diana Reyes, actor/model Marcelo Buquet and Latin bombshell Niurka Marcos.

The expert panel of judges included irreverent TV host Horacio Villalobos, Broadway star Bianca Marroquín and Univision personality Lili Estefan (“El Gordo y La Flaca” / “The Scoop and the Skinny”).
