Latino Coalition: Californians Are Tired Of Politics As Usual

The Latino Coalition Issues Statement on Recent State Assembly Failure to Approve Senator Maldonado for Lieutenant Governor

WASHINGTON,  --Chairman Hector Barreto issued the following statement after the State Assembly failed to approve Senator Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria) as Lt. Governor.

"Californians are tired of politics as usual. It's a shame that the Assembly did not confirm Senator Maldonado as the next Lt. Governor. Maldonado has proven throughout his career that he is a moderate, pragmatic Republican when it comes to making decisions: a different kind of lawmaker in an increasingly polarized party."

We, The Latino Coalition, agree with the LA Times Editorial board in its recent statement, "Now the Assembly Democrats are trying to block him for reasons that are transparently partisan and self-serving."

The Latino Coalition supports the confirmation of Senator Maldonado and urges incoming Assembly Speaker John Perezto set an example by truly working in a bipartisan manner and not to play petty political games that the people of Californiawill not tolerate.
