Mariachi Heritage Comes Alive At L.A. Showcase

LOS ANGELES  -- Celebrating its 20th anniversary, The Mariachi Heritage Society and DirectorJose Hernandez welcome Mattel, Inc. as the title sponsor for this year's event, Viva El Mariachi. Live performances by Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, Latin Grammy-nominated songstress Shaila Durcal and a showcase featuring students from their mariachi program, will highlight the evening's festivities. The annual concert and its guests serve to assist with projection costs for the continued education of the MHS.

Throughout Los Angeles County, Jose and his colleagues at The Mariachi Heritage Society have been teaching the art of the 200 year-old Mexican musical tradition known as mariachi. The MHS offers parents an affordable way for their children to become further educated in their Latin culture and a creative outlet for children to participate in giving back to their schools and community through music and positive self-awareness. The MHS believes strongly in giving children "roots to grow and wings to fly."

In past MHS celebrations, all-star line-ups of musical talent have included some of the most influential icons in Latin entertainment such as Jose FelicianoArturo SandovalAna BarbaraVikki Carr, and April 2 at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse will be no exception with platinum Spanish artist Shaila Durcal debuting new songs from her upcoming album.
