MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, RELIGIOUS LEADERS, ACTIVISTS EXPRESS OUTRAGE AT THE WORSENING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

MARCH 19: MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, RELIGIOUS LEADERS, ACTIVISTS EXPRESS OUTRAGE AT THE WORSENING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

WILL URGE THE ADMINISTRATION, INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO INTENSIFY PRESSURE ON SUDANESE PRESIDENT TO ALLOW AID GROUPS BACK INTO DARFUR

WHAT: The recent expulsion of 13 international humanitarian organizations by Sudanese President al-Bashir has left 1.1 million Darfuris without food, 1.5 million without medical care and more than 1 million without access to potable water. As the situation approaches a humanitarian catastrophe of the highest magnitude, the United States and the international community must urgently hold President al-Bashir responsible for meeting Sudan’s obligation under international law to protect the lives of Sudanese civilians. Several members of Congress, American religious leaders, activists and Darfuri’s will hold a press conference to discuss this growing crisis and the need for immediate action to bring stability to Darfur.
