MICHIGAN ATTORNEY BARTON MORRIS ASSISTS FELONS NATIONWIDE IN REGAINING FEDERAL GUN RIGHTS

TROY, Mich., Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — After more than three decades of dormancy, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is officially reopening the Federal Firearm Rights Restoration Program (formerly the 925(c) program). 

The Law Offices of Barton Morris, serving non-violent felons nationwide, is now accepting inquiries to guide eligible individuals through the complex application process. The revived program allows individuals who completed their sentences and pose no threat to public safety to restore their Second Amendment rights.

Rollout & Critical Deadlines

With over one million people potentially eligible and high demand anticipated, timing is critical:

November 4, 2026: Applications open to the first 5,000 candidates nationwide.

January 4, 2027: Applications open more broadly to the public.

Key Eligibility Details

Case-by-Case Review: Applications are rigorously evaluated based on criminal records, character, and public safety.

Exclusions: Individuals with domestic violence histories, violent crimes, certain sex offenses, or those deemed a danger to society are ineligible.

State vs. Federal Law: Satisfying federal requirements does not automatically clear state laws; dual compliance remains vital.
