MISS BLACK USA PAGEANT COMING TO FLORIDA


The First Ever Miss Black Florida USA and Miss Black Florida Talented Teen USA Pageant Scheduled November 6-8, 2009

Register Now, Ages 14-27, Scholarships, Prizes & National Platform to Excel

Daytona Beach, FL (BlackNews.com) - Mark your calendar. During November 6-8, 2009, contestants from Florida will have an exciting opportunity to be a part of the prestigious Miss Black Florida USA and Miss Black Florida Talented Teen USA Pageant (www.missblackfloridausa.org), scheduled to be held for the first time in Daytona, Florida at the Ocean Center. A Who's Who of dignitaries, state officials and celebrity judges and performers are expected to participate. Contestants ages 14-27, will have the opportunity to win a $2500 scholarship, national/local appearances, mentorship and win the coveted Miss Black Florida USA and Miss Black Florida Talented Teen USA Pageant crowns. The deadline to apply is late summer 2009 and space is limited.

At the helm of this monumental event is the Executive Director, Angel Coleman, Florida native, Honors graduate from the Miami International University of Art & Design and former beauty queen. Ms. Coleman says, "I have a passion for helping young women reach their full potential through education achievement, scholarships, mentoring, and community service. I am a vessel for these young women to be exposed to all that life can bear with determination, hard-work, a balanced education and giving back." Miss Black Florida USA and Talented Teen Pageant is hoping to partner with national/local sponsors to provide a multitude of opportunities for the contestants. Ms. Coleman coined the slogan "Phenomenal Women Inside and Out," and each contestant is required to have a platform and cause to help others. Past pageant winners have become future leaders, innovators and key decision-makers.

The Miss Black Florida and Talented Teen USA Pageants are the official state pageants to the parent organization Miss Black USA Pageant and Scholarship Foundation, Inc., (www.missblackusa.org), a non-profit corporation, recognized under the 501(c) 3 code of the Internal Revenue Service. National community partners and sponsors include: State Farm Insurance -- 50 Million Challenge; the Heart Truth Campaign -- Go Red; and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. The Miss Black USA Pageant has been an outstanding contribution to the African American landscape for over 22 years. The pageant founded by Karen Arrington is based upon 3 tenets: provide educational opportunities to outstanding young women of color while developing their whole woman mind, body, and spirit; celebrate scholastic achievement which is the key to lifelong success and empowerment; and provide community opportunities to address health and education, two leading social issues in the African American community.

This is the first time the event will be held in Florida and young women will have the opportunity to showcase their scholastic achievement and talent. Local supporters can be a part of this occasion by sponsoring contestants and supporting Miss Black Florida USA Pageant and Miss Black Florida Talented Teen USA. It is important to note that contestants must be single (never been married), no children, reside in the state of Florida, US Citizen, along with a minimum GPA of 2.0. The deadline to apply is late summer 2009 and space is limited.

Angel Coleman says, "I encourage local and national sponsors to participate, we can customize a sponsorship package based upon level of commitment. It is imperative given the economy that we provide scholarship and education opportunities for future generations."
