SAN ANTONIO, July 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Muertos Fest, one of the largest Day of the Dead celebrations in the country, is proud to announce this year’s festival dates: Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Hemisfair in downtown San Antonio, the former site of the 1968 World’s Fair. This year’s event marks the first celebration of a newly signed 10-year agreement with Hemisfair, a commitment that secures the vibrant and culturally rich festival’s home through 2034.
“Muertos Fest has found a home at Hemisfair, where the heart of San Antonio comes alive with art, music, altars, and community spirit,” said Jim Mendiola, Muertos Fest Artistic Director. “This partnership allows us to continue our commitment to honoring tradition, while embracing the future of this beautiful celebration.”
In its 13th year, Muertos Fest has become a must-attend cultural event and one of the most attended Day of the Dead celebrations in the United States. The two-day, free event features large-scale altars, or ofrendas, live performances, processions, art, local foods, and family activities — all rooted in the tradition of honoring ancestors and loved ones.
Muertos Fest announces a special altar collaboration and pop-up bookstore with Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico – San Antonio (UNAM), a project strengthening cross-cultural connections with Mexico and elevating the educational and artistic aspects of the festival.
“We are honored to expand our collaboration with Muertos Fest this year,” said Paula de Gortari, Director of UNAM San Antonio. We aim to deepen the cultural ties between Mexico and San Antonio through architecture, literature, and cross-border dialogue. The Day of the Dead is more than a tradition; it’s a living expression of identity, memory, and creativity.”
