New Hispanic Scholarship At Grantham Univ.

WASHINGTON - The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) has announced a partnership with Grantham University In Kansas City, to introduce the creation of an annual four-year scholarship program available to individual members of the USHCC.

The five-year partnership between the USHCC and Grantham University, a private institution that specializes in online education for the working adult student, was created to encourage higher education. The scholarship is available to members of the USHCC’s 200 local Hispanic chambers of commerce across the country, their employees, or family members.

"Only 13% of US Hispanics have graduated from college, compared to 28% of the total population," says Javier Palomarez, USHCC President and CEO. "We are confident our partnership with Grantham University - the first of its kind for the USHCC - will shed light on the need for education in our community and demonstrate that there are options available for non-traditional students to earn their college degrees."

The scholarship value totaling $180,000 over the next five years, will enable recipients to earn a bachelor’s degree through Grantham University’s online degree programs, specifically through the university’s business programs.

Candidates will submit essays on topics related to education and the opportunities a college degree can provide. The first scholarship will be announced at the 32nd Annual USHCC National Convention in September 2011.

The scholarship will cover tuition, books, software and any application fees required to enroll and participate in the program selected by the scholarship recipient. Details of the scholarship program will be available at www.ushcc.grantham.edu.

"For nearly 60 years Grantham University has offered under-served segments the opportunity to educate themselves and earn college degrees in order to build better futures for their families," says Shahid Butt, Grantham University’s Vice President of Marketing.

"Our partnership with the USHCC will allow individuals across the nation to become more aware of opportunities related to education."
