NEW YORK - The 4000 mostly minority tenants of the Diego Beekman Houses in New York’s South Bronx are receiving some good news today. That news is taking the form of a new, low interest, 30-year mortgage for $19 million dollars. The federal government has filed a housing discrimination lawsuit against the city of Joliet in Illinois. The lawsuit filed in Chicago claims Joliet hasn't offered an affordable housing plan to accommodate the mostly black residents who'd be displaced by the planned condemnation of the Evergreen Terrace housing complex. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced nearly $210 million in Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG)allocations to 146 tribes in 25 states.
