NYC’S PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE

NEW YORK – New York City’s famed Fifth Avenue was transformed today into
a sea of Puerto Rican flags, dancing and singing as the 69th annual Puerto Rican Day
Parade got underway.

Tens of thousands of participants dressed in colorful outfits were observed
by an equal number of spectators. The flavor of Puerto Rico seamed to encompass
the whole city.

The Grand Marshal of today’s parade was Daddy Yankee, a five-time Latin
Grammy award winner who helped transform Reggaeton into a global movement
and continues as one of Puerto Rico’s major cultural ambassadors.

The King of this year’s parade was actor and musician Anthony Ramos. He is
best known for his major role in the play Hamilton.

The theme of this year’s Puerto Rican day parade was “Somos Mas Que 100
x 35”. The translation is “We are more than 100×35.” A reference to Puerto Rico’s
geographic dimensions. That phrase gained great attention after Bad Bunny
referenced it during his Grammy award appearance.

There was a quiet overtone among some spectators about the threat that
agents of ICE will shortly be coming to the city as promised by a Trump
administration official.
