Budget 2018: Progress for the Middle Class

Budget 2018: Progress for the Middle Class

Canada NewsWire

THUNDER BAY, ON, March 13, 2018 /CNW/ - When Canadian families have more money in their pockets to help with the costs of raising a family, our middle class is stronger and our economy thrives. That's why the Government of Canada is strengthening the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) so that it keeps pace with the rising cost of living. Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour is in Thunder Bay to discuss Budget 2018 and the enhanced CCB.

The CCB is a more generous, tax-free and monthly benefit that helps families who need it most. Through the CCB, Canadian families receive $6,800 on average to invest in the things that give children a good start in life—things like a safe place to live, healthy food, music lessons or sports camps. And starting in July 2018, the CCB will increase to keep pace with the rising cost of living, meaning a single parent of two children making $35,000, will receive $560 more in the 2019–20 benefit year.

Canada has the fastest growing economy in the G7 and we are reinvesting the benefits of that growth into the people who contribute most to that success. By working together, we will make sure Canadians have every opportunity to succeed, and to build their future and a country we can all be proud of.

"Our government is focused on helping families who need it most. An enhanced Canada Child Benefit will help more families with the cost of raising a family and will keep pace with the rising cost of living. Ensuring that Canadians have more money in their pockets will grow the middle class and help those working hard to join it."
