PANASONIC AVIONICS’ ASTROVA OLED FIRST IFE SYSTEM TO ACHIEVE EYESAFE® DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS 3.0 CERTIFICATION

August 27, 2026 by helpdesk1 |

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic Avionics) today announced that its full suite of Astrova™ 4K OLED in-flight engagement (IFE) screens – from 13-inch to 42-inch – has achieved Eyesafe®* Display Requirements 3.0 certification. With this milestone, Astrova becomes the first IFE system to receive this voluntary, third-party verified certification for blue-light management and display performance criteria.

Panasonic Astrova Eyesafe certification

Growing awareness of digital eye strain is reshaping expectations for display technology, particularly in environments such as aircraft cabins where passengers spend extended periods viewing screens at close range. According to Eyesafe, blue light has been the subject of ongoing research relating to eye comfort, visual experience, and circadian impacts, and exposure to digital devices may be influenced by factors including screen proximity, duration of use, and cumulative viewing time.

Panasonic Avionics designed Astrova with these realities in mind. The company’s Eyesafe certified 4K OLED screens provide a meaningful advantage for airlines seeking to balance immersive engagement with passenger well-being.

The Eyesafe accreditation certifies that Astrova enables airlines to:

  • Standardize eye comfort across all classes and screen sizes and support a more comfortable viewing experience during extended viewing sessions
  • Differentiate the cabin experience with wellness-focused innovation
  • Deliver uncompromised 4K OLED picture quality

Eyesafe Display Requirements 3.0 certification framework establishes the criteria used to evaluate and guide blue-light emissions for digital displays. Astrova meets these requirements through advanced display engineering. The system intelligently manages blue light by using precise spectral tuning at the pixel level, supporting a more comfortable viewing experience while preserving the premium color, contrast, and clarity expected from 4K OLED technology.

Adri Ruiter, Senior Vice President of In-flight Systems and Senior Vice President of Global Operations, says: “The Eyesafe certification of Astrova’s OLED screens demonstrates Panasonic Avionics’ commitment to advanced display technology, passenger comfort, and continuous innovation in the in-flight entertainment experience.”

Eyesafe® certification is a voluntary third-party certification based on blue-light management and display performance criteria. The certification is not a government approval, regulatory authorization, or safety certification.
