Potts Law Firm Expands Odessa Water Billing Class Action to Include Local Businesses as Plaintiffs

September 19, 2025 by helpdesk1 |

Water Billing Failures Threaten Both Odessa Families and Local Businesses

MIDLAND, Texas, Sept. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Potts Law Firm, a premier personal injury law firm serving West Texas, has announced that several Odessa businesses have joined as plaintiffs in the ongoing class action lawsuit against the City of Odessa and Master Meter, Inc. The lawsuit, originally filed on behalf of local residents, now includes The Regency Inn, TownePlace Suites by Marriott Odessa, and Weymouth Truck & Auto as new plaintiffs representing the Odessa business community.

The updated lawsuit says that both residents and businesses have been forced to pay unfairly high water bills because of inaccurate water meters and Odessa’s poorly run billing system. These meters and software have created impossible usage numbers, leading to huge bills that families and businesses cannot afford.

“Water is essential not just to families, but also to keeping local businesses open and employees working,” said Derek H. Potts, National Managing Partner of Potts Law Firm. “By adding community business leaders to this case, we are showing this issue isn’t isolated—it affects the whole community and is hurting Odessa’s families and economy.”

The lawsuit seeks refunds for all impacted families and businesses, as well as a court order to stop overbilling and to make Odessa immediately investigate and fix its billing practices. Businesses like The Regency Inn, TownePlace Suites, and Weymouth Truck & Auto say their water bills suddenly shot up to hundreds of thousands of gallons per month—far higher than normal—despite checking for leaks and taking other precautions.

Potts Law Firm is asking the court to make Odessa stop unfair charges, pay back customers, and set up fair billing practices.
