SEBELIUS AN EXCELLENT SELECTION FOR SECRETARY OF HHS

Today, President Obama will announce his selection of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to become Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of the consumer health organization Families USA, about that selection:

“Governor Sebelius is an excellent choice to become Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and a key leader in the effort to secure meaningful health care reform.

“I have known Governor Sebelius for many years, and we worked together on a Commission appointed by President Clinton to draft the Patients Bill of Rights. Her work then, and her work as Insurance Commissioner and Governor, demonstrate that the President’s confidence in her is fully deserved.

“Governor Sebelius is deeply committed to achieving high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans, and her knowledge about health care issues makes her ideally suited for this new leadership role.

“We congratulate the President on an excellent appointment.”
