Sharpton Demands Resignation After Obama Chimp Email

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and Los Angeles Civil Rights Assn. President Eddie Jones called Orange County GOP Central Committee Member Marilyn Davenport’s “apology” not enough. They will again demand her immediate resignation from her post and a public apology to President Obama and his family.

Davenport’ s “apology” does not address the bigger issue of GOP bigotry and the continuing racial defamation of the president by GOP leaders and activists,” says Hutchinson and Jones, “The resignation of Davenport and a formal apology by the GOP to the president will send the message that the GOP is serious about denouncing bigotry within its party.”

The Reverend Al Sharpton has also demanded Davenport’s resignation.

Earlier today, in a letter to Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus, Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other civil rights leaders demanded that the RNC formally censure Orange County Central Committee Member Marilyn Davenport for her email of a racist, inflammatory, and despicable photo depicting President Obama and his family as monkeys.

The civil rights leaders also demanded that the RNC officially urge the Orange County GOP to issue an apology to the President. Anything less than censure and an apology reinforces the notion that the national GOP tacitly condones racist words and acts by its officials.

Endorsers of the letter were Earl Ofari Hutchinson, President Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable, Dwayne Wyatt, L.A Black Employees for Fairness, Lita Herron, President Youth Advocacy Coalition, Eddie Jones, President Los Angeles Civil Rights Assn., Reverend KW Tuloss National Action Network (Al Sharpton) West Coast Representative, Pedro Baez, Founder Voice of the People, and Willis Edwards, NAACP National Board Member.
