NEW YORK — Washington Square Park in New York City today joined the chorus of protests occurring around the country in remembrance of Sonya Massey, the Black woman whose fatal shooting by a white sheriff’s deputy in her Illinois home has sparked national outrage.
The intensification of the July 6 violent act was magnified after the release of the body camera video showing the harmless woman was shot in her own kitchen.
The white deputy was fired and charged with first degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct.
