CHICAGO, June 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The South Side YMCA is set to ignite the spirit of freedom and community with its Juneteenth Freedom Celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m., at 6330 S. Stony Island Avenue. This high-energy, joy-filled event invites press, partners, and community members alike to witness and participate in a powerful day of cultural celebration, family engagement, and purpose-driven fun.
Expect the unexpected: From exhilarating African dance and musical performances to open-access fitness classes, kids’ activities, wellness and resource vendors, a Girl Scout cookie giveaway, and mouth-watering bites from beloved local food businesses — this is not your average summer gathering.

Adding to the excitement, the event will feature interactive opportunities to connect with health agencies, city departments, and civic leaders—we’ve extended invitations to several elected officials and community stakeholders who continue to champion the South Side.
“This is a celebration of our roots and our future,” said Jasmine E. Guy, Board Chair of the South Side YMCA. “As we honor Juneteenth, we are also mobilizing for equity. The funds raised from this event will provide membership scholarships for young people who deserve access to our programs but can’t afford it. This is the heartbeat of our mission — creating opportunity where it’s needed most.”
