THE CENTER PRESENTS A 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBATORY BRUNCH FOR LGBT FAMILIES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 4, 2009

THE CENTER PRESENTS A

20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBATORY BRUNCH

FOR LGBT FAMILIES

New York, NY. The Center is proud to present its Center Kids 20th Anniversary Brunch on Sunday May 31, 2009 at Noon. Center Kids is the Center’s family program that helps create, nurture and advocate for LGBT families.

Center Kids advocates at state and local levels for the rights of alternative families. The program has become a model for regional and national LGBT family organizations. It is often described as “the only game in town” for LGBT couples trying to build a family.

Center Kids has been the first stop for thousands of LGBT people seeking information and support on their pathway to parenthood, many of whom will return for this event to acknowledge how far we have come.

Children have opportunities to befriend other children from a similar non-traditional family setup, while their parents have a chance to meet, socialize and build a support network. Educational programs for parents are offered ranging from financial and legal planning workshops, to Family Play Dates.

Beyond providing services to families and prospective parents, Center Kids has been an active partner in a wide range of relevant public policy initiatives and advocacy organizations including Marriage Equality, the NYC LGBT Foster Care Coalition, the National Family Policy Working Group, the Empire State Pride Agenda, and the Queer Economic Justice Network.

This brunch serves a dual purpose, a fundraiser to help the program continue its valuable work in the community and a reunion for the countless families that it has helped throughout the years.
