The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) issues a statement in support of Rihanna.

The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) issues a statement in
support of Rihanna.

The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) declares a state of
emergency and issues an immediate call-to-action to men and women worldwide
to stop domestic violence.

The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) is
enraged and saddened by recent reports of Rihanna being the most recent
alleged public victim of domestic violence. WEEN extends its arms to women
of all races and ages to engage in dialogue, and to take aggressive action
to stop domestic violence worldwide. WEEN recognizes that domestic violence
is a common occurrence, affecting more than 1.3 million American women each
year (Source: National Coalition Against Domestic Violence) and at least one
woman every 9 seconds. This public display of irresponsibility and abuse
should in no way indicate that domestic violence is acceptable or tolerable.
WEEN draws the line here and declares a state of emergency.
In recognition of victims of domestic abuse, many of whom are suffering in
silence, www.weenonline.org is currently a go-to source for support,
dialogue and information. WEEN Radio will devote its next one-hour, online
radio program to domestic violence on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 with a
celebrity panel of phenomenal women declaring a state of emergency and
speaking out on this issue. A series of domestic violence, celebrity PSA's
will follow to take back responsibility and encourage women to speak out if
they have been a victim of domestic violence.
