Lawyers Honored For Commitment To Gay Rights

MIAMI - Brandon Fitzgerald, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, Inc. (MCCA), has been named to the National LGBT Bar Association’s inaugural list of the Best Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Lawyers under the Age of 40. The LGBT Bar established this award to recognize young LGBT legal professionals who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.

Forty recipients were recognized at the Lavender Law Conference held in Miami Beach, Fla., on August 26. Awardees included partners and associates from both large and small law firms, attorneys working at nonprofit organizations and in-house counsel in large corporations, legal scholars, government attorneys and even a state senator. The complete list can be viewed at http://www.lgbtbar.org/Under40.html.

As MCCA’s Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, Fitzgerald handles all of the organization’s legal matters. Previously, he was an associate in the Washington offices of several national law firms and served as in-house counsel to several multinational companies. He is co-chair of the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association’s Diversity Forum and is a founder of its Corporate Scholars Program, which provides paid internships for diverse students attending law school. Fitzgerald holds a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.

Brandon represents the new generation of LGBT lawyers who are taking positions of leadership across the country,” commented MCCA Executive Director Veta T. Richardson. “His energy and talent contribute to the success of our organization every day, and he richly deserves this award.”

“We are incredibly proud of these forty individuals,” said D’Arcy Kemnitz, Executive Director of the National LGBT Bar Association. “Together, they represent the best and brightest young minds in the LGBT legal community.”
