AUTHOR BRINGS DREAM TO LIFE WITH DEBUT RELEASE, BRONZEVILLE'S BOOTSTRAPS
May 12, 2009
This month, after years of research and writing, Wallace Hall celebrates the launch of his debut novel, Bronzeville's Bootstraps. A provocative, informative and entertaining read. Hall's new book reveals the untold story of African-American entrepreneurs in 20th century Chicago. Spanning two decades, the book thoughtfully depicts life as it was in one of our nation's most affluent African-American communities, illustrating how it reached that pinnacle, prior to, during, and following The Civil Rights Movement. ...

A COURAGEOUS VICTIM: Taking a Stand Against MS-13
May 04, 2009
After MS-13 gang members robbed a Houston beauty salon at gunpoint last January and sexually assaulted a salon employee (pictured right), one of the gang members went a step further: he took the owner’s picture so he knew exactly who she was. If she thought about going to the police, he said, she would be sorry. The owner was also told that from now on, she would be expected to pay $100 a week to the gang for “protection.†MS-13, whose formal name is Mara Salvatrucha, is one of the largest Hispanic street gangs in the United States. According to the 2009 National Gang Threat Assessment, there could be as many as 50,000 MS-13 members worldwide, with 10,000 members in the United States. The gang is known for its highly violent ways, and members are involved in all kinds of illegal activities, including drugs, robbery, extortion, weapons trafficking, and murder. ...

Rep. Virginia Foxx Dishonored Matthew Shepard's Death On The House Floor
April 30, 2009
On April 29, 2009, in a speech on the House floor, Rep. Virginia Foxx claimed that Matthew Shepard's death was merely the result of a robbery gone bad. While his killers Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson did rob him, they also admitted that they were well aware of his sexual orientation and pretended they were gay to lure him away from the bar he was in at the time. The most striking feature of the case, of course, is that during the course of a normal, simple robbery, the victim is not generally beaten, tied to a post, and left for dead. ...
